ONE FRAMED ARTWORK PER ARTIST in ANY MEDIUM

Any medium is accepted.  2D only.

In order to keep our shows fresh, only NEW work or work not previously displayed in the Bloomington area is eligible.  BWS membership is required to participate and dues must be paid for 2024-2025

Size:  Maximum 36” in either direction, including frame

Theme:  The BWS theme for this annual show is “We Paint…2D: Dali and Degas!” 

Keeping with our previous themes of the great artists Van Gogh and Monet, this year’s inspiration comes from artists Dali and Degas.  Here for your inspiration are a few links about their lives and art.

Be inspired!  Have fun!

Dali often used a combination of India ink, watercolor, and gouache.  Here are some examples.

Degas – Impressionist painter, sculptor.

Publicity:  Exhibiting implies each artist’s consent to photograph and film artworks for catalog, publicity, or archive purposes must be permitted by the artist. 

Online Gallery:  Once again, BWS will exhibit online as a SmugMug gallery.  This gallery will be accessible from the BWS website (and others, as possible).  Please submit your scanned or photographed artwork to Jeanne Dutton at Teachers@BloomingtonWatercolor.org by FEBRUARY 1.

  • Please photograph your work PRIOR to framing.
  • Please send in jpg format.
  • Label image with title and author.

YouTube:  The plan/hope is to produce a guided video tour and post it on Facebook and YouTube, also linked to Teachers Warehouse.

Framing: No sawtooth hooks or screw eyes permitted.    Use only D-hooks and wire for hanging.  If you have a question, email Jeanne at Teachers@bloomingtonwatercolor.org

Either glass or Plexiglass is acceptable.

Delivery:

Tuesday, February 4th

  • 10:00 am – 12 noon
  • The Vault at Gallery Mortgage

If you are unable to make delivery yourself, please make arrangements with a friend.

Sales and Pricing: 

All entries must be for sale.

Sales commission is 50% which supports Teachers Warehouse.  It is recommended that you price your art below $500. If a sale occurs, the artist may choose to replace that painting with another.

Receptions: 

Opening Reception, both virtual and in person, following current CDC guidelines:

Gallery Walk Friday, February 7, 2025, 5:00-8:00 pm 

            BWS will provide the refreshments.

            Awards announced at 6:00 pm

Second Reception:

            Gallery Walk Friday, March 7, 2025, 5:00-8:00 pm

            BWS will provide the refreshments.

Pick Up:

  • Monday, March 31
  • 10:00 am – 12 noon

Please, once again, make arrangements with someone to collect your painting if you are unable to make the date.

Insurance:  Insurance, if desired, is the responsibility of the individual artist.  There is a “Release and Hold Harmless” form that all artists must sign when delivering artworks, and these will be required at check in. 

Awards:

  • Best of Show will receive $100, sponsored by John La Bella at The Vault.

A panel of three judges, including John La Bella, will judge the entries.

  • Silver Second will receive $75 sponsored by BWS.

Door prizes!  Every BWS member who enters the exhibit is eligible to win!
